Step by step

Your trip for dental work in Turkey

What actually happens, in order, from the first message you send us to the weeks after you are back home in the UK.

Short answer

You message us photos or an X-ray, a dentist sends a written plan, and you book your own flights to Antalya. We meet you at the airport, scan and examine you on your first day, confirm the plan in writing and treat you over the planned appointments. Crowns usually take one trip with five hotel nights; implants usually take two trips, four nights and then five.

Your trip for dental work in Turkey

Most of the worry about dental work in Turkey is really worry about the unknown: who you will talk to, where you will sleep, what happens if your tooth hurts on a Sunday in Sheffield three months later. This page walks through the whole thing as it runs at our clinic, so you know each step before you take it.

The short version

  1. First message. You send photos or an X-ray on WhatsApp or through our form.
  2. Written plan. A dentist replies with an itemised plan and price in pounds.
  3. Flights. You choose dates with your coordinator and book your own flights.
  4. Arrival. Our driver meets you at Antalya Airport and takes you to the hotel.
  5. First appointment. Examination, 3D scan, final plan agreed in writing.
  6. Treatment days. Appointments as planned, with transfers each time.
  7. Checks before flying. Bite, healing and paperwork, then home.
  8. Afterwards. Your coordinator stays in touch, and you keep seeing a dentist at home.

The sections below fill in each step.

Step 1: your first message

You can write to us on WhatsApp on +44 7575 589099 or use the contact form. You do not need to know what treatment you want. "I have lost three teeth on the left and my bridge is loose" is a perfectly good start.

Photos help a great deal. Take them in daylight, near a window, with your lips pulled back so the gums show. Five pictures are enough: smiling straight on, teeth closed from each side, the top teeth from below and the bottom teeth from above. A friend with a phone will do a better job than a selfie.

If your UK dentist has taken a panoramic X-ray (often called an OPG) in the last year or so, you are entitled to ask for a copy. For implants it is worth having, because it shows bone and roots that photos cannot.

Tell us about your health too: diabetes, heart problems, blood thinners, osteoporosis medicines, smoking. None of these automatically rules you out, but the dentist needs to know before writing your plan.

Step 2: reading your written plan

A dentist looks at what you sent and your coordinator passes on a written, itemised plan. It lists each tooth and what will be done to it, the material, and for implants the brand: MegaGen, Neodent or Straumann. Every line has a price in pounds. The plan also says how many trips you need and how many hotel nights are included.

There is no charge for the plan and no deadline on it. Read it at home, ask us anything that is not clear and, if you like, take it to your own dentist for a second opinion. Our prices page shows how the figures are worked out.

Step 3: dates and flights

Once you are happy, your coordinator suggests dates that suit the treatment and our diary. You then book your own flights to Antalya. We do not sell flights, and they are never included in our price, which leaves you free to choose your airport, airline and times.

Check the GOV.UK travel advice for Turkey before you book, including the passport validity rules. Then send us your flight number and arrival time. If you are bringing someone, tell us now so the room and transfers are arranged for two.

How long you stay depends on the treatment:

TreatmentTripsHotel nights included
Dental implantsUsually 2, a few months apart4 on the first trip, 5 on the second
Full mouth implants (All-on-4, All-on-6)Usually 24, then 5
Zirconia crownsUsually 15
Veneers, bonding and other cosmetic workUsually 1Shown on your plan

Step 4: arriving in Antalya

When you come through arrivals, our driver is waiting with your name. The drive to central Antalya takes about 20 minutes, and the driver takes you straight to your hotel. Your coordinator will message you to confirm the time of your first appointment, which is usually the next day, so you can rest after the flight.

From now on the driver takes you to the clinic and back for every appointment. You do not need to find taxis or work out the buses.

Step 5: the first appointment

Your first visit is the most important one. The dentist examines your mouth, goes through your medical history and takes a 3D scan in the clinic. The scan shows the bone, the nerves and the sinuses in three dimensions, which matters most for implants.

The dentist then checks your plan against what the scan shows. Often nothing changes. Sometimes a tooth that looked weak can be kept, or there is less bone than the X-ray suggested and a graft is needed. Any change is explained to you face to face and written down with its price. Nothing is done until you have agreed to the final plan in writing.

Step 6: treatment days

The pattern depends on what you are having.

Implants. The implants are usually placed on one day, under local anaesthetic, with sedation available if you have asked for it. You will have a check a day or two later. Full-arch patients have fixed temporary teeth fitted on this first trip. After that the bone needs a few months to heal around the implants, which you spend at home, before the second trip for the final teeth.

Crowns and veneers. The teeth are prepared early in the stay, measured with a digital scan, and you wear temporaries while the laboratory makes the final ones. You will try the new teeth in before they are fixed, so you can see the shape and shade and ask for changes.

Between appointments your time is your own. After surgery, keep it quiet: soft food, no alcohol, no swimming and no hot sun on your face for the first days. After crowns you can usually enjoy the seafront and the old town.

Step 7: checks before you fly home

Before your last appointment ends, the dentist checks your bite, the fit of the new teeth and how the gums or surgical sites are healing. You will not be signed off to fly if something needs another look.

You leave with written aftercare instructions, copies of your X-rays and scans, and, if you have had implants, an implant passport. The passport records the brand and details of each implant so that any dentist can identify them later. Keep these papers with your travel documents.

The driver takes you back to the airport. That is the end of the trip, but not the end of our care.

Step 8: back home

Your coordinator stays on WhatsApp. If something feels wrong, such as a crown that catches, swelling that is getting worse rather than better, or a temporary tooth that has come loose, send a message with clear photos. A dentist looks at them and tells you what to do. Some things can be handled by a dentist near you; others are looked after at our clinic on your next visit, and covered problems are dealt with under our written guarantee.

Stay registered with a dentist at home and go for regular check-ups and cleaning. Show them your records and implant passport. Regular check-ups protect your new teeth and are also one of the conditions in the guarantee terms.

If you are having implants, the second trip is planned in the same way: your coordinator agrees dates with you, you book the flights, and the driver and hotel are arranged again.

FAQ

Common questions

How long before my trip should I first contact you?

There is no fixed rule. Many patients write to us a few weeks or months ahead so they have time to read the plan and pick flights at a good price. Your coordinator will tell you if a date is too soon for your treatment.

Which airport do I fly to?

Antalya Airport (AYT). You choose the UK airport and airline. Send us your flight number and arrival time and the driver will be waiting.

Can I travel alone?

Yes, many people do. If you are having sedation you must have someone with you afterwards, so tell your coordinator early and we will help you plan for that.

What should I bring?

Your passport, a list of your medicines and medical conditions, any recent X-rays, comfortable clothes and something soft to eat on the first evening after surgery. A phone with WhatsApp makes everything easier.

What if my flight is delayed?

Message your coordinator. The driver follows your new arrival time and appointments can usually be moved within your stay.

Will I be able to eat normally during the trip?

After crowns or veneers most people eat normally with a little care. After implant surgery you will be asked to stick to soft, cool food for the first days.
